Sockeye goes 3-0, beating a Santa Cruz team led by strong play from
Idris Nolan and Darryl Nounnan, and a young and enthusiastic LPC team.
To end the day, we faced ECU, and started the game strong with a break courtesy
of an Eddie Feeley block on a dump throw followed by a quick endzone
strike. The game took a few chippy turns, but overall was well-played.
Notable plays on our side included multiple gigantic grabs by Matt
Rehder including a big skying catch D on a huck that would have sailed
over most anyone else, and a massive D by Nate Castine on a huck to
the back of the endzone to Chase.
ECU showed notable resiliency, always bouncing back strongly after any
break, as there were no multiple break runs at all in the game,
although their D was unable to force more than (I think) 1 break on
our O, even after earning a few turnovers. This game was a crucial one
for either team, as it decided which side of the bracket we would end
up on tomorrow. As it is, the above is correct, we will see Wolf at
8:30am, and if seeds hold, we would see Furious afterwards in the
semi.
Other things I’ve heard around the tourney– Outlaw coming back strong
after being down 11-4 in one game, and toppling the Santa Cruz team to
earn a quarters berth against Revolver tomorrow. Underground had a
barnburner against Traffic that ended in heartbreak for the girls in
green, losing on double-game point in a multiple-turn point. Similar
story from Swagger, losing to Mischief in a double-game point that I
heard was just chock full of amazing plays on both O and D.
